A short biography
Dr. Asli Ozbek Figueroa Orta is a licensed and registered Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in Toronto, Ontario. She is also registered as an MD and ophthalmologist in Turkey
She graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and got her license as an MD. Soon after, she started residency training in ophthalmology at Prof.Dr.N. Resat Belger Beyoglu Ophthalmology Education and Research Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey. Upon successfully completing the residency program and getting licensed as a specialist physician in ophthalmology, she worked for many years in various multidisciplinary hospitals until she moved to Canada for Naturopathic Medicine Education. She graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), IMG (international medical graduate) specific education program in 2019. Since 2020, she is working as a licensed and registered naturopathic doctor (ND) in Toronto, Ontario.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Asli takes an active role as a speaker and educator in integrative and functional medicine training courses designed for Turkish medical doctors.
Her interest in integrative medicine and holistic medicine started when she was a medical student. After realizing that conventional medicine has several limitations and cannot solve all health problems, she dedicated herself to learning natural and traditional medicine systems to fill in the gaps in her allopathic medicine education and practice. While practicing as a physician, she got education, training, and certifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, energy therapies, hypnosis, Ayurveda, yoga therapy, and meditation. With her naturopathic medicine education and experience, she enriched her knowledge and experience with natural treatment methods and holistic approaches methods to health and wellness.
As a practitioner who has education and experience in various forms of medical systems, Dr. Asli sees health and well-being as a balance between the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a person’s being. She aims to address all these factors by using less invasive and gentler healing methods to help her patients to reach their true potential and take back control of their health
She integrates her conventional, traditional, and naturopathic medicine knowledge and experience. She creates personalized treatment plans and recommendations for each individual needs. To create a more personalized approach, she puts into consideration the genetic makeup of her clients when available. Lifestyle recommendations, diet, and nutrition, body-mind techniques, botanicals, nutraceuticals, TCM, and acupuncture are some examples of treatment methods she mainly uses in her practice.
Dr. Asli has particular interests in disease prevention, integrative genetics, nutrigenomics, antiaging, longevity, geriatric health, eye disorders and diseases, metabolic health, and weight management. However, her practice is not limited to these topics. She accepts adult and older adult age groups of clients with various health problems from gastrointestinal problems to hormone imbalances, and stress management to adult-type ADHD.
